Writing
1 (example paragraph; 20
points, 1 hour): You will be given topics from which you
will choose one to develop into a paragraph. It is useful to
take a few minutes before writing to formulate a clear,
focused, and engaging topic sentence to begin your
paragraph, and outline/organize vivid examples to illustrate
and support that topic sentence. Review the basics of
paragraph writing and guide to the illustration (example)
paragraph in your supplement packet (pp. 122 of the Paragraph Writing section) and practice with the exercises provided
there. Also, here are additional
tips and examples culled from your own in-class writing and
from past students' work.
