Holiday Reading
This
semester break's holiday reading is Valentine Grey by Sandi
Toksvig. You can acquire the book on your own or order a copy from the MCS
shop (khun Dao's shop under the stairs of Maha Chakri Sirindorn Building).
Ask the staff there for the book acharn Puckpan assigned for English I
semester break.
This semester's holiday reading is a one-of-a-kind experience unlike any
you've had before. It's Santa's gift to you. He has heard your call in the
paragraphs and special projects presentations about teenage control and
your desire for freedom. Apparently, according to Let Grow, a movement that "counters the culture of
overprotection," and research studies, experiencing things yourself does
remarkable wonders for your physical and mental strength and well-being.
In the holiday spirit of giving and in the Let Grow spirit of thinking for yourself, then, we
are going to try this experiment of reading Valentine Grey that is
free from usual angst and obligations.
So forget what your upperclassmen told you about what their understanding of holiday reading is. Why do you need the bribe of a test or grades to dig into a good book? Refuse to read any reviews or synopses of the novel. You do not want to spoil the present. If you read this novel and learn something, get excited, cry, are provoked into thinking new thoughts, are inspired to find out more information about events mentioned there, have richer vocabulary, gain good grammar, improve reading skills, more power to you.
I always want to talk about a fun story I've read with fellow fans, so, all readers in any and every section, you are invited to a Valentine Grey extravaganza on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at MCS 501/19 at the start of next semester so we can have a mini English I reunion, hang out, and surprise each other with our reading impressions and questions. We make the event what we want it to be. If you want to bring food to munch on and turn our get-together into a surprise potluck, go ahead. I have a new onion dip recipe to test with brave volunteers, so I'll be bringing a limited supply of chips and dip for you to sample. First come first serve while goodies last! Go to the Valentine Grey blog post on Roundtable Conversation and post your reply to it to accept this invitation. I look forward to seeing you there. Merry Christmas and happy New Year!
