Presentation Guidelines

You will have two formal ten-minute presentations in this class: one is on a Ghosh studies topic you have chosen below, and the other is a presentation of your final paper. Each presentation will be followed by a ten-minute question, answer and critique session.

Ghosh Studies 

Choose one of the following topics to work on for a ten-minute in-class presentation:

• Ghosh in Criticism (Apichaya Kotaravivat, December 17, 2010)

  Study critical material on Ghosh (books about his work, critical essays in journals, papers delivered at academic conferences, theses and dissertations written on him, reviews in academic journals and in reputed print and online media. Where do we find criticism on Ghosh (What countries? What medium? Which journals?) Since when have these critical material begun to appear? What fluctuations do you see in critical output and reception? What do these critical texts write about Ghosh? What ideas, themes, issues, or aspect of the work and of Ghosh himself do they remark or dwell upon? Analyze your findings.

• Ghosh in Education (Ming Panha, December 24, 2010) 

  How is Ghosh being studied in schools, colleges, universities, and institutions? What syllabi include Ghosh? At what levels of education? What would a map of plotted cities/countries with his works on their syllabi look like? Since when has Ghosh begun appearing in classrooms around the world? Which works are read? Under what issue or theme? Analyze your findings and present to the class how Ghosh figures in education and what it might mean. What are some implications of your research results? What does it say about the way Ghosh is being taught? In what contexts do students learn to read and view Ghosh? How closely do students' writing about Ghosh reflect the courses' concerns?

  Ghosh and the Past (Pansiri Rattanasuwan)

  Examine Ghosh's fiction and nonfiction work as well as his speeches and interviews. What does Ghosh write or talk about when he mentions the past? What places does he write about? In what period? Analyze your findings. How does he use the past? How does he portray ideas, events, people, or places from over ten years ago? What meaning does the past have for Ghosh?

• Ghosh and the Present (Naruporn Wuttijariyakul)

  Examine Ghosh's fiction and nonfiction work as well as his speeches and interviews. What contemporary things, events, or issues does Ghosh write or speak about? What places does he write about? When did he write about them? Analyze your findings. How does he engage with his contemporary world? What do we know about his sense of the present? How does he view current events, people, ideas, etc.?

• Ghosh and the Future (Pongsanguan Jiradechakul)

  Examine Ghosh's fiction and nonfiction work as well as his speeches and interviews. What does Ghosh write or talk about when he mentions the future? What places does he write about? In what period? Analyze your findings. How does Ghosh see the future? What does the future mean to him?

Final Paper Presentation 

Prepare a ten-minute in-class presentation of your final paper for February 25, 2010. Also, be prepared to critique classmates' presentations and respond to your friends' feedback on yours.
