    Evaluation

    The final grade students receive for this course is based on the following:

    Below are the dates on which students will be tested:

    Writing Assignments Below are the dates on which you will complete a graded in-class writing assignment: Writing assignment 1 (Illustration): July 2 Writing assignment 2 (Process): August 7 Writing assignment 3 (Description): September 4 Writing assignment 4 (Review): September 18

    Should you miss a test for any reason, you will receive a score of zero. Similarly, should you be absent on a day when the class does an in-class writing assignment, you will be given a score of zero.

    Self-Learning Center Assignments

    In addition to the work you do in class, you are also expected to do three types of activities in the Faculty Self-Learning Center. These activities are:

    Video

    Worksheets for the following video segments should be picked up and completed at the Self-Learning Center by the dates indicated. After completing the sheets, you should put them in your course folder. It is important that you observe the deadlines for completing these exercises since your teachers may check your folders at any time and may give you unannounced quizzes over the materials you have been assigned to watch.

    You are also expected to complete a weekly songsheet. To obtain these sheets, tell the attendant the name of your classroom teacher. He will give you a sheet and ask you to sign your name on the class roster. After completing the exercise, return it to the attendant. At the end of each week, your teacher will check your work and return it to you in class.

    Also in the Self-Learning Center are supplementary grammar exercises. These are to be completed weekly and may not be removed from the Center. You are responsible for studying these exercises in preparation for the two grammar tests given during the term and for the grammar section of the final exam.

You must have a copy of the text no later than Thursday, June 12. Begin reading immediately and observe the following reading schedule:

    June 26: pp.1-40 July 31: pp. 41-90 August 28: pp. 91-140 September 11: pp. 141-end

    Expect to have a short quiz on each of the dates above.

    Folders All students are required to purchase a two-ring binder in which to keep all work for the semester. Work should be arranged in this order:

    1. Vocabulary sheets 2. Reading 3. Writing 4. Songs 5. Video 6. Tests and quizzes

    Students must also keep a pad of lined paper with holes in their folders.

    Vocabulary Sheets Each week you are expected to complete a vocabulary sheet with words from your reading exercises, text, video worksheets, songs or your external reading. Keep these sheets in your course folder.

    Your bi-weekly participation score will be determined to a large degree by your attendance and punctuality. A one-hour absence during any two-week period will result in one mark being deducted from your score atuomatically. Two tardies is equivalent to a one-hour absence.

    The final examination will test reading, grammar, and writing but will not include the external reading.
