FIFA World Cup : Germany 2006

 About the World Cup

From its humble beginning in 1930 the Soccer World Cup has grown to be one of the most spectacular sporting events in the world. The World Cup is the most important competition in international soccer and is organized by FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), the sport's governing body. The tournament takes place every four years. The previous tournament was held in 2002 in Korea and Japan and the next will be held in Germany in 2006.

FIFA WORLD CUP - Germany 2006

World soccer's supreme title - The FIFA World Cup is disputed between nations every four years. Current holders Brazil will defend their title in 2006 in Germany.

Germany will present itself in 2006 as a strong, modern and innovative business location using the motto "Germany - Land of Ideas". The football world cup 2006 tournament will be a vastly different affair. The world will have the chance to see what a fantastic country Germany truly is. Germany is now organizing its second FIFA World Cup.

Germany must impress people through its willingness to help and friendliness and trade and industry through its strengths as a business location. For this reason they are planning a strong marketing campaign for Germany as a business location. World Cup 2006 will stimulate the German economy and naturally we want to make best possible use of this.

In spite of non-prime time viewing hours in Europe, North and South America, many national audience records were broken - with an average world-wide figure of 314.1 million viewers recorded per match.

Host cities

Twelve cities - Berlin, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hannover, Kaiserslautern, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart - have been named to host the Finals. The opening match of World Cup 2006 will take place on 9th June in Munich - with the final taking place one month later in Berlin.

Group Qualification

More than 160 national teams take part in the regional (Continental Zone) qualifying rounds to qualify as one of the 32 teams that will take part in finals. Qualifying games have already started for the 2006 World Cup and will continue through-out 2004 and 2005

Mascot ‘Goleo VI’!!!

After the ambiguously gay trio (Kaz, Ato and Nik) from World Cup 2002, FIFA organizers have outdone themselves once more. This time, they've come up with "Goleo VI", one of the lamest mascots in sports history. Goleo looks like a dude wearing a cheap Halloween costume.

+Teamgeist TM: Team Spirit !!!

+Teamgeist TM – match ball for 2006 FIFA World Cup. The name is based on the single most decisive characteristic every team needs to have to lift the golden trophy: Team Spirit!

+Teamgeist TM is the most accurate football ever produced because of the groundbreaking design elements they’ve incorporated into this ball.

New panel shape and carcass construction of the +Teamgeist TM leads to:

·        Increased precision for straight and curved shots: With the +Teamgeist TM, every pass, every shot, every dribble, is as consistently accurate, powerful and fast as the last.

·        Improved all weather performance for consistent play in any condition.

o       Revolutionary Panel Shape: eliminates surface irregularities to create a perfectly round ball for greater accuracy

o       The optimized carcass composite, made from a modified Latex compound and fabric, means energy displacement is far more evenly distributed.

o       +Teamgeist TM graphics aren’t printed on the surface of the ball, like most others, but beneath a durable transparent film so they won’t wear off over time, significantly decreasing design abrasion.

o       Thermal Bonding: seamless panels create a smooth, consistent kicking surface

In 2010 will be the first time that the final tournament will be hosted by an Africa Nation - South Africa. The 2010 World Cup promises to be the planet's biggest sporting event ever. Well over a billion people are expected to follow the month long tournament between the world's top 32 (possibly 36 in 2010) soccer playing nations.
