Research & Workshops  in  Music Therapy  Thailand
 

Dr. Bussakorn Sumrongthong has conducted music therapy research and workshops both in Thailand and abroad.  Her music therapy research has involved the mentally disadvantaged children from the Rachanukul School, Bangkok and for the physically handicapped at the Sawangkanivas Rehabilitation Center, Samuthprakarn, Thailand. She also has performed cross-cultural research on the use of Thai musical instruments as a tool in music therapy following the Japanese Akaboshi Music therapy method. While conducting field research in the northern Hmong Villages,  she explored the musical ceremony of the Hmong shaman and the therapeutic roles they serve. She also supervised the thesis research on the Phi Fa,the Shaman of Isan (the Northeast region of Thailand) and has been involved with many music therapy workshops and lectures abroad outside of her home country of Thailand.


Annually at Chulalongkorn University, she dedicates her time as a guest lecturer in a "Music Therapy" course for over 100 undergraduate students as well as being a music therapist for the "Art for All Camp" (AFA) which is sponsored by the United Nations , the Faculty of Fine and applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University and the Thai National Lottery Fund. The "Art for All Camp" has won a National Best award as Project of the Year for 2003. This AFA project focused on easing the 4 main forms of disabilities: blindness, deafness, and the mentally & physically disadvantaged. Through her warm dedication in helping others Dr. Bussakorn has been invited to be a resource person on local television stations as well as many radio stations in Thailand. Her intention is to contribute her musical knowledge to  offer both help and hope for those who have less chance in society.
