เมื่อได้รับรายงานอุบัติเหตุดังกล่าว เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจ นำโดย ร.ต.อ. สมศักดิ์ ทิพย์เจริญ พร้อมด้วยรถพยาบาล 4 คัน จึงรุดไปยังที่เกิดเหตุ พบเด็กสาว 2 คน แต่งชุดนักศึกษาหมดสติอยู่ในรถตู้และต่อมาเสียชีวิตขณะนำส่งโรงพยาบาล ส่วนนักศึกษาอีก 3 คน ขณะนี้ยังอยู่ในห้องไอซียู

ตำรวจสันนิษฐานว่าอุบัติเหตุครั้งนี้น่าจะเกิดจากความประมาทของคนขับทั้งสอง อย่างไรก็ดี ร.ต.อ. สมศักดิ์ กล่าวว่าจะสอบสวนถึง สาเหตุที่แท้จริงของอุบัติเหตุครั้งนี้โดยเร็ว

Van crash kills 2 students

Chiang Rai - Two students were killed and three seriously injured last night when the speeding van in which they were traveling from Doi Mae Salong collided with an oncoming pickup carrying construction materials, police reported.

After being informed of the accident, police, led by Capt. Somsak Tipcharoen along with four ambulances, rushed to the scene. Two girls in university uniforms were found unconscious in the van and later died on the way to the hospital. Three other students are still in the ICU.

Police suspect carelessness of the two drivers caused the accident. Pol. Capt. Somsak, however, said he will investigate the true reason without delay.
